Excellent PumpBy: Paul Thelning on 7 March 2017This pump was a replacement for an identical pump that was destroyed in the recent Carwoola bushfire. It's job was to supply water from our dam to a dedicated fire tank for firefighting distribution. It did it's job well and contributed towards our houses being saved. Unfortunately when the fire reached our dam area, it took the pump out, but after it had done it's job. It's a good product and excellent value for money.
Thornado firefighting pumpBy: ted gardner on 29 November 2016the Chonda motor ( Chinese Honda) started first pull.....but remember to add oil to the crank case. Other pumps have a NO OIL warning on the dip stick plug. The ring & tail & clamp supplied were not up to the task of sealing the suction hose i used ( 2 inch poly agric. pipe) so i bought a proper ag. pipe joiner ( male to pipe; female to pump inlet thread). Was a bit disappointed in the self prime capacity of the pump itself...seemed to take ages even with a foot valve installed, suction line filled with water and less than a 2m lift. But once it started pumping, the flow rate was excellent. I look forward to years of reliable service pumping from a farm dam to buffer tank located over 35m above dam level.
Purchase and initial use of a Thornado 2 inch 7 HPBy: Paddy McGuire on 14 September 2016Recently I needed to replace the engine on my fire fighter pump that is used to fill a tank that supplies our house with gravity supplied pressure that negates the need for a house level pressure pump. I settled on an alternative option which was to get a whole new engine & pump unit. My friendly mower mechanic speaks well of the Chinese made version of a Honda engine and being a strong believer in the theory that 'a dollar saved is a dollar earned' I went in search of a 'Chonda' unit. There are several different brands on the market with prices for very similar performance spec's varying between $240 - $300. Being reluctant to buy without making phone contact I phoned a Victorian based Company to ascertain the availability of spares, back-up and etcetera and found myself talking to some fellow in the Phillipines. It was possible to understand him but getting clear straight answers became 'mission impossible' - the little he did tell me was confusing and still did not establish a certainty of spare parts supply. With a big X next to that supplier I rang Thornado at their Chipping Norton number and got to speak to a very knowledgeable fellow, at that site, who readily answered all the questions and even supplied good info on how best to run the engine in to ensure a long and productive life. The next morning I rang back to order the unit, and the records show that it was despatched from their warehouse on that same day. Before finalising the plumbing of the unit the engine sump was allowed to drain then filled prior to removing the spark plug and putting a dash of engine oil on top of the piston and then using the starter cord to wind it over 50-60 times. Next day when the plumbing was done and testing was in order the 'Chonda' Thornado fired on the 1st pull of the cord. Once the priming was done the the unit with the extra 1.5 HP and twin impeller pump handled the workload so easily that I'm finding it difficult to tell whether it is actually pumping or not. Only 1 non-positive comment can to be made and that is that the 10mm nut used to clamp the speed control lever needs to loosened by about 1 turn to make it more user friendly. In summary I'm extremely happy with the unit and the Thornado Co and would recommend them to friend and foe alike.
